(More customer reviews)I was reluctant to purchase this item without seeing any other reviews, having been disappointed time and again with purchases of "exquisitely hand-painted" items made in China. In this case, I'm glad I made the leap, since this trinket box looks *exactly* like the pictures above and is very well-constructed. I have the item sitting in front of me as I type this, and I can't find a single thing to criticize. Every flower and leaf is perfectly painted with no missed spots or blobs of paint slopped onto the backgrounds or anywhere else they shouldn't be. The kitty cat's white underside, paws, and face are painted in white pearlescent, while the back and head (on our sample) are more golden than the photo suggests. You can't tell from the photos, but the nose is actually done in gold plating instead of paint, while the mouth is delicately outlined in pink.
The body of the carriage is painted in a translucent red over gold plating, so the raised part of the basket weave pattern gives the appearance of gold highlights. The flowers are pearlescent pink and the leaves are green closest to the flowers & stems, variegating to gold toward the tip of each leaf. The wheels between the spokes are gloss black, and this is the only area where the painting could have been just a little neater, as the spokes on our box aren't quite as well-defined as on the Amazon photos. The embedded crystals are sufficiently sparkly, with green for the cat's eyes, dark pink in the middle of each flower, and clear along the edges of the basket's top border and on the cat's back. None were missing.
Mechanically, the trinket box also exceeds expectations. Either the basket base was perfectly cast or the bottoms of the wheels were filed before gold-plating, as the item sits perfectly flat with no rocking at all. The upper and lower halves of the box also fit perfectly together with no wiggle at all on the hinge. The magnetic catch works perfectly and the entire interior is painted in glossy butterscotch. I can't think of anything else to say about this item, except that my wife is absolutely thrilled with it and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another such item from the same manufacturer. The trinket box is so nicely made and finished, it is easily worth what I paid for it, and then some.
