(18/10 and 18/8 steel contains 18% chromium and 10% or 8% nickel - the combination makes the steel extremely resistant to corrosion. 18/0 flatware does not contain any nickel and is subject to corrosion, i.e. little spots of rust, pitting, etc.). You can verify this set is 18/0 at the Oneida website or check yourself using the magnet test (18/8 and 18/10 flatware is only slightly magnetic). Still a beautiful and decent flatware set for everyday use and of very good quality (I think Oneida even gives a 25 year warranty), but this particular set is way overpriced. Amazon, Oneida, Target and ***mart all sell the 20 piece set for around $20 to $24. One oddity - the rose detail on the knives is somewhat flattened and only approximates the lovely detailing on the rest of the set. I purchased this from another source (at the normal price, lol) thinking it was 18/8, but am seriously considered keeping it anyway because of the quality and beauty, but must admit it annoys me that the knife doesn't quite match.
8/19/11 Update - I did keep the set I purchased and have to admit they have grown on me. The finish on this flatware is just lovely and the more I use them, the better I like them - no rust, pitting or anything else and I don't think there will be as these are beautifully machined. For those of you who are familiar with the spoon test, although the teaspoon didn't pass, I was able to dig out frozen hard ice cream with the tablespoon of this set without bending which shows the quality of the steel, especially as this is a very thin and light design. Anyway, I am seriously considering buying more of these and have to say I am very impressed with the Oneida brand. By the by, these are marked made in Vietnam for those who are interested.
